With great sadness, we announce that on July 29, 2024, Dr. Andrzej Hruban, long-time head of the Department of Semiconductor Compounds at the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology, passed away.
Dr Hruban was an eminent expert in the field of growing single crystals of semiconductors and topological materials. He co-authored articles in some of the most prestigious journals and collaborated with research labs around the world. From 1970 to 2016, he worked at the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology and since 2016, he was affiliated with the Department of Magnetism at the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences.
He generously shared his knowledge and experience with younger colleagues, earning their respect as a mentor. Known for his kindness, collegiality, and sociability, he was highly regarded and liked by many, not just within the Institute of Physics.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Hruban’s family. His passing is a great loss for all of us.
