It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Zygmunt Łuczyński, a distinguished scientist and long-time Director of the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology, which he headed for over two decades.

Thanks to his work, the Institute was the best research institute in Poland, recognized worldwide. Materials produced at the Institute were studied throughout Poland and a large part of the world.

A wonderful innovator – co-creator of Polish graphene, Polish silicon carbide, and many other materials.

An exceptionally distinguished activist of the democratic opposition within the NSZZ "Solidarity" trade union. Decorated with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. He was the Head of the Department of Oxide Monocrystals, whose knowledge and authority had an invaluable influence on the development of young scientists and the establishment of the Ensemble3 Centre of Excellence.

The funeral will take place on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Funeral Home at the Powązki Military Cemetery.

We bid farewell not only to the Director and Manager, but also to a wonderful man who, directly and indirectly, contributed immensely to the development of scientific research in Poland, as well as to the development of countless scientists.

He will remain forever in our memories and in the hearts of those who owe him so much.
